Over the past year I have been collecting routers on the cheap on eBay. I know nothing about WDS linking and so suppose I will be jumping on that learning curve thanks to your recommendation. Thank you for your detailed answer, saved to bookmarks. Update: I have been able to get the WRT1900ACS up and running in repeater mode under the native Linksys firmware so problem resolved for now. WRT1900AC V1 5Ghz AC 80Mhz WDS Station r47608 (Defective, no 2.4Ghz but 5Ghz works great) It does not impact other devices from connection, just won't connect in WDS mode. Keep in mind that WDS will only work between similar based routers, in my case various WRT's. You might want to have a look at the WDS mode as it may suit your needs better than Repeater. My only reason for retaining the one Netgear is to service a remote camera without WiFi and one that is fixed in position.Īlso I note that by using the wds station mode, I still have the ability to setup AP's on the slave router and again it appears to the system that I only have one router. I would setup static addressing on my master then locate devices remotely only to find that I had to change my static tables every time I moved a device.
I did use repeaters a while back but got very annoyed with how the MAC address got changed on any device connected. The beauty of WDS is that any devices on my network appear as if they are all connected to only my master router with no change to the MAC address, with the exception of anything on the Netgear. I do have one Netgear (EX6200-DD-WRT)set up as client bridge since WDS is not available which has no problem connecting to my WDS masters.
In my case I use WDS for linking my routers.
Have no idea what your configuration is but I will note that the Marvell series routers have client/client bridged/wds. Posted: Sat 21:07 Post subject: Repeater Function I was hoping that DD-WRT would work for me. Ostensibly, the Linksys native firmware supports repeater mode but I have not been able to get it to work. I have never been down this road before and haven't a clue as to what utility I need to connect to the router and the commands used to set it up as a Repeater Bridge.
If you are going to tell me I have to use ssh to set this up, please be so kind as to point me towards some instructions on how to go about this. Huh? Is it that r36698 and/or the WRT1900ACSV2 cannot be set up as a Repeater Bridge or is there some other way to set it up via the DD-WRT GUI?
The problem is that there is no Repeater Bridge option in the drop down list. Physical Interface Section (for multi-band routers, only use Repeater on one radio) Repeater Bridge Madness: r36698 on the WRT1900ACSV2Īfter studying the DD-WRT Wiki: Repeater Bridge document I boldly launched into a setup and was promptly stymied.
